Adam
Kipling A.K.A. Da Kippa was born on May 31st
1983 in Freeport Long Island where he was raised
for the first 8 years of his childhood. Due
to the level of violence and crime in the community
his parents felt it was best to move to a safer,
more quiet neighborhood, Smithtown, a 98% white
community. This is where he attended High School,
but the switch from a racially mixed community
to a predominately white town was a very challenging
transition emotionally and mentally for him
and his brother even at a young age. Da Kippa
and his brother were popular in Freeport as
the only white kids on the block hanging with
the older crowd, but in Smithtown, friends were
much harder to come by. Refusing to act fake
and try and fit in with the upper middle class
white kids, Da Kippa became very isolated, conflicted,
and angry with his peers. Hip Hop became his
non-destructive way to vent his bottled up emotions
and anger.
Exploding on the underground scene in 2001
debuting the song "Am I Crazy" with
a record setting score of 85% votes "Phat"
on Insane Clown Posse's weekly underground artist
competition "Phat or Whack". Da Kippa's
rap career took off with a blast, and started
quickly gaining attention from anyone and everyone.
The explosion would soon die down as he disappeared
from the public/Internet's eye. Hip Hop was
put on the back burner as Kippa dealt with;
depression, loneliness, and disappointment with
how things were going. While dealing with inner
conflict and isolation, he attended college
at Adelphi University on a full scholarship
for Baseball. Kippa was looked at as a loose
cannon and very intimidating as he lashed out,
sold drugs, "attempted" robberies,
and turned to drugs for self medication. Kippa
was also becoming even more frustrated with
the behavior and overall "fake-ness"
of his peers. He, despite his problems and hardships,
graduated with a degree in Communications and
is currently working at KandoKid Films where
he has his foot in the door as a Production
Assistant on music videos and commercials. After
four years of a continuous downward spiral,
abusing drugs, and bad relationships with peers
as well as girlfriends, Kippa moved back home
in Smithtown, and left his problems in Hempstead
where he had been living during his college
years.
Hip Hop has been a diary for Kippa to express
what he has been going through during these
turbulent years in hopes to reach other young
people and to comfort anyone going through similar
times. As things seemed to be looking better,
Kippa plummeted to rock bottom in 2005 when
he crashed head on into a telephone pole at
50 miles an hour without a seatbelt. He was
taken to the hospital and treated for head injuries
but was arrested and taken to jail that same
night because of alcohol on his breath and open
beer bottles in his totaled car. He got a slap
on the wrist for this was his first offence
and was ordered to; community service, attendance
in an alcohol abuse class, and was hit with
multiple fines. Since then he has come along
way with maturing as a man and living life more
positively. His story is far from over and every
new song is another entry in his diary. Each
song released is a page in his story, from his
first album in 2001, "Underneath The Underground",
to his sophomore release in 2004, "17 Sneak
Attacks", to his most recent songs released
on the Internet which will soon be put into
the third installment of his rapping career
with the release of a highly anticipated third
LP "Product Of My Environment" which
does not have a release date as of yet. He has
now reached the next chapter where he searches
for a place in Hip Hop Underground history.
He WILL and has already began making his mark
as one of the undergrounds fiercest, no holds
bard, flame spitting but yet most humorous rapper.
Being the true Gemini that he is, there are
many sides to his personality, and each song
shows a different side of him. Be a witness
as Da Kippa, the Gemini Genius, continues to
grow and his story continues to unfold.
